Project Coordinator Profile

What prompted you to become a Project Coordinator?

I originally got involved with Hands On Orlando to make a difference in the community. Once I started volunteering I wanted to become a Project Coordinator because I felt I could make an even greater impact. Not only would I be helping the community, but I would be helping others to help the community as well.

How important is your role as a Project Coordinator in terms of causing successful volunteer projects?

In order for a project to be successful, several requirements need to be met. First, the project needs to be accomplished, and for this all the credit goes to the hard work of the volunteers. Second, the volunteers need to feel involved and useful. This is where the Project Coordinator plays a big part. If everyone is taking part and feeling good about what they are doing, then they are more likely to volunteer again. Everyone should gain by being a part of a Hands On Orlando project.

Please share an experience you’ve had on a project that everyone should know about.

One Sunday at the Hubbard House we served a family who had just checked in. They were obviously worried and distraught over the future of their family member. When we handed them their food you could see the gratitude in their faces. Serving them dinner might have been a little thing, but it was one less thing for them to worry about and they greatly appreciated it.

What special skills or qualities are needed to become a successful Project Coordinator?

You need to be flexible, able to listen well, think on the fly, and learn from others. But mostly you need to want to have fun and help others.

How has becoming a Project Coordinator impacted you personally?

So much can be gained by being a Project Coordinator. It has allowed me to grow as a leader, and this growth can be seen in all facets of my life.

What advise would you give to others interested in becoming a Project Coordinator?

Do it and I guarantee you will love it.
