FAQ

Youth Involvement...

Hands On Orlando welcomes young volunteers.  In fact, we serve and support thousands of youth volunteers on our projects each year.

The minimum age of participation is set by the non-profit agencies that benefit from our projects, not by Hands On Orlando.  This is because our projects do not take place at or support Hands On Orlando.

Some of our projects actually welcome children as young as age four!  We are a strong advocate for girls and boys who want to volunteer!

Every project we manage is also designed to be a learning experience, meaningful and hands-on.  Our projects do not involve administrative work, fundraising or a long-term commitment.

Most non-profit agencies, public schools and parks that we help consider a variety of factors when setting the minimum age; safety, liability as well as the quality and quantity of work completed.

It is our policy not to help organizations that only want adult volunteers.

Here are examplesGirls and boys age four and above can participate in our Extreme Yard Makeover projects and most nursing home visits.  A gym painting project will typically involve youth and adults age 16 and above.  Children age 10 and above can sort canned goods.  All minors below the age of 14 should be accompanied by a parent or guardian.

Youth, age 16 and over may also qualify to lead projects (composed of adults and youth) though our Project Coordinator training program.

HOO also participated in something called National Youth Service Day.  Our efforts and community partners turned out the largest number of volunteers and projects in the U.S.A. in 2001, 2002 and 2003.

There is no cost to participate in our calendar projects.
