Youth Involvement...

Hands On Orlando welcomes young volunteers.  In fact, we inspire and empower thousands of youth to get hands-on every year.

The minimum age of project participation varies.  It is set by the non-profit agencies that benefit from our projects, not by Hands On Orlando.  That said, our youngest volunteers are four year olds.

Every project we manage is designed to be a learning experience, meaningful and hands-on.  None involve administrative work, fundraising or a long-term time commitment.

Most non-profit agencies do not welcome young volunteers.  That’s because they consider a variety of factors: workplace safety, liability, quality and quantity of work completed and the amount of staff time required to train and supervise volunteers.

It has always been our policy not to help non-profit organizations that only want adult volunteers.

Here are a few examples of how we support youth volunteers.  Girls and boys who are at least four years old and can participate in our Extreme Yard Makeover projects and most nursing home visits.  Volunteers age 10 and above can sort canned goods.  An outdoor painting project typically involves volunteers age 14 and above.

Children below the age of 14 must be accompanied by a parent or guardian.  Youth and adult volunteers must also complete and sign our VIP form (waiver of liability).  All projects occur rain or shine.

Truly exceptional youth, age 16 and over may also become HOO Project Coordinators.

There is no cost to participate in our calendar projects.
